Building the dream,
For the love of great horses
Coyote Springs Ranch is a small breeding horse operation
located in northern California, near Redding. Moving here a couple of years ago,
we are still in the process of developing the ranch and creating the dream of a lifetime.
Our goal is to produce horses with good minds, attitudes
and dispositions; along with great ability and heart. In other words, world class
potential.
Broodmares come from great bloodlines and all have
the above mentioned qualities which are passed on to their offspring.
All foals and yearlings are watched for any display
for natural inborn ability. Meaning, while they are at play in the pastures,
we take special note of natural slides, rollbacks, attitudes towards cattle, any tendency to move them around, and the like. This is also the age where there is a lot of focus on bomb-proofing them. They are exposed to loud noises, tarps, plastic bags, barking dogs, ropes, and the like.
While breeding heavily on foundation lines, mares
are occasionally out-crossed with stallions that match a rigid criteria. These
stallions are thoroughly researched on bloodlines, performance records, offspring records, and their own dispositions.
The training preference is non-resistant; incorporating
methods of the greats, such as Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt, among others. Respect
is expected from all our horses, and in return, it is given. A good horse should
be able to be handled equally as well by a child as by an adult.
